What Is Messianic Judaism?

Messianic Judaism is a movement of Jewish and Gentile believers who accept Yeshua as the Messiah promised throughout the Hebrew Scriptures — while maintaining a distinctly Jewish expression of faith.

Different from Traditional Christianity
  • Shabbat observed on Saturday
  • Biblical feasts of Leviticus 23
  • Torah portion cycle followed
  • Hebrew language & liturgy
Different from Traditional Judaism
  • Yeshua is the promised Messiah
  • New Covenant (Brit Chadasha)
  • Salvation by grace through faith
  • Gentiles grafted into Israel

We believe this is not a contradiction — it is the fullness of G-D's one unbroken covenant with His people, revealed in its completeness through Messiah Yeshua.

How We Came to Be

A congregation built through covenant, community, and calling.

The Movement

Roots in the Messianic Revival

The modern Messianic Jewish movement took root in the 1960s and '70s, as Jewish believers in Yeshua began reclaiming their Hebrew heritage — and as Gentile believers recognized their grafted-in relationship to the olive tree of Israel (Romans 11). A global awakening was underway.

The Founding

Melech Ha Olam is Established

Melech Ha Olam — "King of the Universe" — was established in the Myrtle Beach area by believers who longed for a congregation honoring both the Jewish roots of the faith and the reality of Messiah Yeshua. From a small, faithful gathering, a vibrant worshipping community took root in the Lowcountry.

Our Home

The Market Common, Myrtle Beach

The congregation found its home at 1131 Shine Ave, Suite 3 in The Market Common — a welcoming, central location where every Saturday the community gathers for Shabbat worship (10 AM–12 PM), the Oneg fellowship meal (12–2 PM), and Midrash Torah study (2–4 PM).

Growth

Leadership, Partners, and Community

The Shammashim — Hines and Cecelia Pegram, John Lashare, Jackie Johnson, Elaine Lilling, Joseph and Darley Caruso, and Sherri Rogers — have faithfully shepherded the congregation. Partners in Israel and across the Messianic movement have deepened our roots and extended our reach.

Today & Beyond

Reaching the World

Today Melech Ha Olam broadcasts live every Shabbat on Twitch and YouTube, partners with ministries in Israel, and welcomes seekers from across the Grand Strand. Our vision: every person encountering the King of the Universe through the living Word of G-D.

The Four Pillars

Everything we do flows from four foundational commitments.

🌍
01
Foundation

The Movement

We are part of the global Messianic Jewish movement — Jewish and Gentile believers who recognize Yeshua as the promised Messiah of Israel, believers honoring the TORAH as One. G-D's covenants with Israel are eternal and irrevocable.

🎯
02
Purpose

The Mission

To proclaim the Good News of Messiah Yeshua to both Jew and Gentile, to equip believers in Torah-observant living, to stand with Israel and the Jewish people, and to advance the Kingdom of G-D through worship, study, and acts of loving-kindness.

📢
03
Proclamation

The Message

Yeshua is the Living Torah — the Word made flesh. We preach repentance, faith, immersion, and life in the Ruach HaKodesh. We hold to the authority of all Scripture, from Bereshit to Revelation, as G-D's unified, unbroken word to His people.

🕍
04
Practice

The Mitzvot

We observe the Biblical feasts, Shabbat, and appointed times of the L-RD as acts of joyful obedience, not as means of salvation. These holy convocations connect us to G-D's prophetic calendar and reveal the fullness of Messiah's work — past, present, and future.

שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָה אֶחָד "Hear, O Israel: The L-RD our G-D, the L-RD is one. Love the L-RD your G-D with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." — Deuteronomy 6:4–5

What We Believe

One G-D

We affirm the Shema — the L-RD our G-D, the L-RD is One. G-D is the eternal, all-knowing Creator of heaven and earth.

📜

Authority of Scripture

All Scripture — Torah, Prophets, Writings, and Brit Chadasha — is G-D-breathed and profitable for doctrine, correction, and instruction in righteousness.

🕊️

Yeshua is Messiah

Yeshua of Nazareth is the promised Messiah of Israel — who died for our sins, rose from the dead, and will return to reign in Jerusalem.

🔥

The Ruach HaKodesh

The Holy Spirit dwells within all believers, imparting spiritual gifts, producing righteousness, and empowering us for service in the Kingdom.

🇮🇱

Land and People of Israel

G-D's covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is everlasting. The Jewish people and the land of Israel hold an irreplaceable place in G-D's redemptive plan.

🍷

The Biblical Feasts

The moedim — appointed times of the L-RD — are prophetically significant rehearsals pointing to the work of Messiah and G-D's eternal calendar.

⚖️

Salvation by Grace through Faith

We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Messiah alone. Torah observance is the fruit of salvation, not its root.

🤝

One New Man

In Messiah, the dividing wall between Jew and Gentile is broken down. Together we form one body — unified in covenant love.
